Summary
Before he was Muhammad Ali, he was Cassius Clay and was a contender for the Heavyweight title of the world when he took on Sonny Liston on the night of February 25, 1964. At the time of the fight, Liston was considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, having knocked out Floyd Patterson in 1962 and retaining the title until this fight. Clay was a massive underdog and sports writers felt Clay would not even last a full round against the much more experienced fighter. But last he did, and the match went six rounds before Liston gave up, and didn't even begin the seventh round. It was the fight that shook the world and within a week, Clay would change his name to Muhammad Ali. Sports Illustrated listed this fight as the fourth greatest sports moment in the 20th Century and the movies for the fight proved to be as popular as the features playing the theatres.
