Summary
The actor on this French grande, drawn with such evocative artwork by prolific artist Boris Grinsson, is the French New Wave wunderkind Jean-Pierre Leaud. Loved and hated for the very same aspects of his acting style, he served Truffaut and Godard's improvisational techniques completely. Grinsson wisely chose one of the most memorable closing moments in film history for his poster. The heartbreaking character 'Antoine Doinel' has just escaped from a work camp and runs to the ocean, which he has never seen. Truffaut's camera dollies in and freezes and the actor stares at the sea?..or at us? Leaud's "Doinel" is on several "Top 100 Screen Characters" lists.
